BE AWARE OF IMPERSONATION SCAMS: Board staff and NABP (National Association of Boards of Pharmacy) will not contact you by telephone and demand personally identifiable information or payment of funds for any reason.
Description of the Scam - In this scam, a pharmacy receives a phone call from someone who claims to represent the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. The caller ID shows a Board of Pharmacy telephone number or NABP’s official telephone number, which bad actors have spoofed to appear legitimate. The caller then attempts to solicit information from pharmacy staff, including information that may constitute personally identifiable information (PII). Caller ID spoofing is a technique used by scammers to make an incoming call appear to originate from a trusted or official source. A familiar phone number on caller ID does not confirm the identity of the caller.
Regulatory Proposals
2026-E - Prescription Transfers
This proposal seeks to amend Section 2511 of the Board's rules to address an identified issue of when a pharmacy has a more stringent policy than federal and state regulations regarding controlled substance prescription dispensing.

2026-D - Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agencies
The ‘‘Protecting Patient Access to Emergency Medications Act of 2017’’ which became federal law on November 17, 2017, amended the federal Controlled Substances Act (CSA) to allow for a new DEA registration category for emergency medical services (EMS) agencies that handle controlled substances. The federal regulation became effective on March 9, 2026.
The Board currently issues a Louisiana CDS license in the name of the EMS medical director, who is a physician. To align with the federal regulation, this proposal seeks to amend Section 2705 of the Board's rules to issue the Louisiana CDS license in the name of the EMS agency, instead of the medical director.
