BE AWARE OF IMPERSONATION SCAMS: Board staff and NABP (National Association of Boards of Pharmacy) will not contact you by telephone and demand personally identifiable information or payment of funds for any reason.
Description of the Scam - In this scam, a pharmacy receives a phone call from someone who claims to represent the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. The caller ID shows a Board of Pharmacy telephone number or NABP’s official telephone number, which bad actors have spoofed to appear legitimate. The caller then attempts to solicit information from pharmacy staff, including information that may constitute personally identifiable information (PII). Caller ID spoofing is a technique used by scammers to make an incoming call appear to originate from a trusted or official source. A familiar phone number on caller ID does not confirm the identity of the caller.
Guidance Documents

Act 769 of 2014 Legislature & Pharmacist Immunization Recordkeeping
The 2014 Louisiana Legislature expanded the list of immunizations and vaccines that a properly credentialed pharmacist may administer without a prescription or medical order from a practitioner. There are certain requirements for the immunizing pharmacist. In addition, the Board issued guidance to the pharmacist for his recordkeeping responsibilities.
Prescribers with Authority for Controlled Substances
This summary document describes all practitioners with prescriptive authority for controlled substances, as well as limitations for certain types of prescribers.
For those pharmacies submitting claims related to workers' compensation, a rule published in March 2012 requires the 'pharmacist's ID' as one of the minimum required data elements in the claim. In response to mulitple questions from pharmacies, the Workforce Commission issued a bulletin clarifying that term to mean the pharmacy's National Provider Identification (NPI) number. See Workforce Commission Bulletin for more information.
