Description of the Scam - In this scam, a pharmacy receives a phone call from someone who claims to represent the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. The caller ID shows a Board of Pharmacy telephone number or NABP’s official telephone number, which bad actors have spoofed to appear legitimate. The caller then attempts to solicit information from pharmacy staff, including information that may constitute personally identifiable information (PII). Caller ID spoofing is a technique used by scammers to make an incoming call appear to originate from a trusted or official source. A familiar phone number on caller ID does not confirm the identity of the caller.
State Offices Closed January 24, 2014 in 38 Louisiana Parishes
Louisiana Commissioner of Administration Kristy Nichols announced late in the evening on January 23, 2014 that state government offices would be closed on Friday, January 24, 2014 in 38 Louisiana parishes where hazardous driving conditions and scattered power outages were forecast for the morning due to a mix of rain and sleet, as well as snow and ice accumulation. Since the Board of Pharmacy office is located in East Baton Rouge Parish which is on the list of affected parishes, the Board of Pharmacy office is closed. We plan to re-open on Monday, January 27, 2014.
