Description of the Scam - In this scam, a pharmacy receives a phone call from someone who claims to represent the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. The caller ID shows a Board of Pharmacy telephone number or NABP’s official telephone number, which bad actors have spoofed to appear legitimate. The caller then attempts to solicit information from pharmacy staff, including information that may constitute personally identifiable information (PII). Caller ID spoofing is a technique used by scammers to make an incoming call appear to originate from a trusted or official source. A familiar phone number on caller ID does not confirm the identity of the caller.
State Government Office Closure Extended Again
Louisiana's Commissioner of Administration has extended yet again the closure order for state government offices in 27 parishes across southern Louisiana, including East Baton Rouge Parish where the Board of Pharmacy office is located. The office will remain closed through Tuesday, August 16, 2016 due to the effects of the severe weather system which passed through the area this past Friday and Saturday and the associated flooding. Unless the closure order is further extended, we intend to re-open the Board office on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 8:00 a.m.
