Description of the Scam - In this scam, a pharmacy receives a phone call from someone who claims to represent the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. The caller ID shows a Board of Pharmacy telephone number or NABP’s official telephone number, which bad actors have spoofed to appear legitimate. The caller then attempts to solicit information from pharmacy staff, including information that may constitute personally identifiable information (PII). Caller ID spoofing is a technique used by scammers to make an incoming call appear to originate from a trusted or official source. A familiar phone number on caller ID does not confirm the identity of the caller.
Board rescinds guidance information on CBD oil products
During their August 14, 2019 meeting, the Board took note of Act 164 of the 2019 Legislature, which created a state-based industrial hemp program, removed hemp-derived CBD from the state list of controlled substances, and created a regulatory structure for the retail sale of hemp-derived CBD oil products. With that legislation, all the concerns which gave rise to the Board's initial guidance document on this topic in November 2018 as well as its revised guidance document in February 2019 were addressed. The Board then voted to rescind its guidance document on CBD oil products. Finally, the Board encouraged its licensees interested in the retail sale of hemp-derived CBD oil products to comply with all applicable laws and rules governing that activity.
