Description of the Scam - In this scam, a pharmacy receives a phone call from someone who claims to represent the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. The caller ID shows a Board of Pharmacy telephone number or NABP’s official telephone number, which bad actors have spoofed to appear legitimate. The caller then attempts to solicit information from pharmacy staff, including information that may constitute personally identifiable information (PII). Caller ID spoofing is a technique used by scammers to make an incoming call appear to originate from a trusted or official source. A familiar phone number on caller ID does not confirm the identity of the caller.
Board Office Scheduled to Re-Open
But With Reduced StaffingLouisiana's Commissioner of Administration has cancelled the state government office closure notice. All state offices in all parishes - including the Board of Pharmacy - are scheduled to re-open at 8 am on Monday, August 22, 2016.
We are pleased to inform you the offices of the Board were never compromised in any way during the flooding incident. Water never entered or approached the building, and we never lost electrical power. There were some intermittent road closures within a mile or so of the Board office the first weekend, but nothing since then.
However, several of the Board's office staff have had significant damage to their homes, and some have lost everything. Some are working to salvage and re-build their homes, and some cannot even access their homes yet.
We will open the office on Monday with about half of our regular staff. We have mail, emails, and faxes from Friday the 12th through Saturday the 20th in the office. We will open and process everything in date received order as quickly as we can because we know how important your credentials are to you. Because of the reduced staffing, we suggest your best method to contact the office is by fax or email and not by telephone (unless you are specifically instructed to call a certain number).
