Description of the Scam - In this scam, a pharmacy receives a phone call from someone who claims to represent the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. The caller ID shows a Board of Pharmacy telephone number or NABP’s official telephone number, which bad actors have spoofed to appear legitimate. The caller then attempts to solicit information from pharmacy staff, including information that may constitute personally identifiable information (PII). Caller ID spoofing is a technique used by scammers to make an incoming call appear to originate from a trusted or official source. A familiar phone number on caller ID does not confirm the identity of the caller.
Board Office Repair & Renovation Project (06-15-2018)
The Board's office building was constructed almost 20 years ago; the interior and exterior are in need of repair and renovation. We began the project on May 21, 2018 and the anticipated completion date is November 17, 2018. The contractor has sequestered approximately half of the Board's parking lot for their use, including all of the spaces in front of the building. Therefore, parking spaces will be limited for the next several months. The project includes the replacement of the floor in the lobby, public restrooms, and other areas of the building, which means access to the front office area may be restricted or compromised from time to time. As you might imagine, the use of jackhammers and other tools throughout the property may make telephone and other conversations difficult from time to time.
During the interim of the construction project, we encourage your use of email and facsimile to communicate with the Board office. If a personal visit is required, we encourage you to contact the office in advance for assistance with parking and directions to the front office personnel. Further, we encourage you to exercise caution while in the construction zone.
