Description of the Scam - In this scam, a pharmacy receives a phone call from someone who claims to represent the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. The caller ID shows a Board of Pharmacy telephone number or NABP’s official telephone number, which bad actors have spoofed to appear legitimate. The caller then attempts to solicit information from pharmacy staff, including information that may constitute personally identifiable information (PII). Caller ID spoofing is a technique used by scammers to make an incoming call appear to originate from a trusted or official source. A familiar phone number on caller ID does not confirm the identity of the caller.
Board office re-opens with limitations
We have completed the preparations which will allow us to re-open the Board office to visitors. As a reminder, the Governor has declared Monday, May 25 a legal holiday for the state to observe Memorial Day; the Board office will be closed that day. We intend to re-open the office at 8 am on Tuesday, May 26 with the following limitations:
- Although we will maintain our usual office schedule (8 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday and 8 am - 4 pm Friday), we will close the lobby from 12 noon to 1 pm.
- To comply with distancing requirements, we can accommodate a maximum of 4 visitors in the lobby at the same time. In the event you arrive and see 4 people in the lobby, we will ask you to wait outside or in your vehicle until at least one person leaves the lobby.
- To facilitate the visitor registration process, you will be asked to produce a photo ID so the receptionist may record your name and the purpose for your visit.
- If you do not need to speak with the receptionist, feel uncomfortable interacting with other visitors, or do not want to wait in line, we have a mail slot near the front door of the building where you can deposit any materials you wish to deliver.
Like all other places of business, we are monitoring federal and state government communications and guidance. In the event we need to make changes to our operations, we will communicate that information to you in a timely manner by email distribution as well as website updates.
