Description of the Scam - In this scam, a pharmacy receives a phone call from someone who claims to represent the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy. The caller ID shows a Board of Pharmacy telephone number or NABP’s official telephone number, which bad actors have spoofed to appear legitimate. The caller then attempts to solicit information from pharmacy staff, including information that may constitute personally identifiable information (PII). Caller ID spoofing is a technique used by scammers to make an incoming call appear to originate from a trusted or official source. A familiar phone number on caller ID does not confirm the identity of the caller.
Board issues guidance information on CBD oil
The Board continues to receive inquiries from its licensees and others relative to retail sales of Cannabidiol (CBD) Oil. During their November 14, 2018 meeting, the Board approved a guidance document on the topic for the benefit of its licensees, particularly those in possession of state controlled substance (CDS) licenses and federal controlled substance registrations issued by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
